About This Age Group: Career Exploration

Career development at the middle school level takes student awareness and basic knowledge of occupations to the next level. Middle school is the time to discover personal abilities and interests and to formulate career and educational plans. It is also time to bring the reality of the world of work to students and emphasize the importance of strong academic and skill development. Students at this age will benefit from opportunities to integrate career development into the existing middle school curriculum as much as possible.

Students: Did You Know?

This is exactly the right time to expand your knowledge of occupations and the world of work. Learn as much as you can about yourself and about jobs that interest you before you decide which path you will take in high school.

Have you ever gone to work with someone in your family? Have you ever volunteered in your community or church? How about simply talking to family and friends about the work they do? Use your ingenuity to experience occupations and to learn as much as you can about them. And don't forget to take notes on what you like and don't like about each. You'll be glad you did.
