About This Age Group: Career Preparation

Career development at the high school level includes activities and skills that will ready students for their post-secondary life. Students will need opportunities to build employability skills. They will need to learn how to write resumes, cover letters, and fill out job applications properly. Some will need to know about the college application process. Others will need to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery in preparation for a career in the military.

These years can be extremely challenging because of the demands on everyone's time. But, it's also an exciting time to help young people make good decisions as they prepare for the next stage of their lives.

Students: Did You Know?

This is the time to make sure that the goals you have set for yourself will become a reality. What, exactly, do you need to know and do in order to reach your goals? Make it your responsibility to find the answers to your questions, develop a plan, and follow through.

Fortunately, you have allies on your journey. Your family, teachers, counselors, local business people, and even the Department of Labor are available to guide you. Learn to ask these allies for help when you need it. And good luck!
